My long poem, A Night In Morden Tower, which originally appeared in Fix This Moment: Writers respond to North East Literary History (New Writing North, 2010) has been published in the literary publication with a difference that is Stepaway magazine.

What sets Stepaway Magazine apart is that it exclusively publishes urban walking narratives by a wide array of international writers. My piece appears in a special edition of the magazine titled Northern Wanderer. The edition was produced as a tribute to the poet Barry MacSweeney, who provided the inspiration for the magazine with his poem After Breakfast (With Peter) Costing 5/6d.

I was delighted to learn in the introduction to the issue the Barry was born in Benwell, the deprived area of Newcastle where I was also born and lived as a young child. Perhaps there’s something in the water…
