I will be delivering four workshops for dot-to-dot active arts for a new socially engaged art project in Blyth, Northumberland. Details below (A full schedule of workshops can be found on the dot-to-dot website).

above ground level

5th August to 31st October 2014

42 Richard Stannard House, Bridge Street, Blyth, Northumberland

We are pleased to announce that we have successfully secured funding from Arts Council England, Northumberland Arts Development and Northumberland County Council to bring a second year of free issue-based arts workshops to Blyth.  We are using a disused office space on the town’s main high street which has been kindly offered rent-free by Arch: The Northumberland Development Company.

above ground level builds upon last year’s hugely successful Old-New Curiosity Shop project which took place in two empty shops on Blyth’s main street.  This year’s project offers the same down-to-earth welcome and broad range of high quality contemporary art-based activities as our previous project but is more focused on working with local people and artists to develop creative responses to a range of personal, local, national and international issues.

There will be at least 37 sessions delivered by 10 different lead artists and supported by 4 trainee practitioners and one apprentice project worker.  Our project team will be working to help other local creative minds find ways to use our space for free to help them try out and develop new ideas and activities in their community.  Our project also links into a commissioned residency by Mariam Rezaei as part of the Cloud Burst Festival – a youth arts event – and The Big Draw in October.

above ground level’s lead artists are:

Stevie Ronnie
Theresa Easton
Jude Thomas
Angela Kennedy
Rachael Allen
Kat Mace
Mariam Rezaei
Susannah Pickering
Sophie Foster
Aidan Moesby

Workshops start with Stevie Ronnie on Tuesday 5th August and Wednesday 6th August, then Theresa Easton on Thursday 7th August.  All workshops start 11am until 4.30pm.  For a full list of workshops, please see our project web page and keep checking our Facebook and Twitter pages for regular updates, images, etc. too.

The venue is a fully accessible open plan office space in very good condition.  It is 2,000 square feet in size so can accommodate large events.  For more information about our project or ideas you may have to try out new ideas in our space, please email us.
