In 2013 I visited the High Arctic as part of the US-based Arctic Circle international residency programme. Since returning I have been working on Arctica, a series of interlinked artworks on the subject of climate change. These works are interdisciplinary in nature encompassing literature, performance, photography, artist’s books, film and a public art installation.

This programme of work will be part-funded through a commission from New Writing North and Durham Book Festival. Other confirmed project partners and venues for the work include Free Word Centre, Arvon Foundation, Filmpoem, NewBridge Books and the Centre for Fine Print Research in Bristol. I am also in discussions with a number other partners including individual artists and curators, local authorities, schools, arts organisations, festivals and galleries with regard to providing venues and support for the work.

In order to realise this ambitious project I am looking to recruit two freelance arts professionals into the project team. Please note that these roles are subject to the successful outcome of an Arts Council England funding application, the results of which are expected by the end of October 2014.

Freelance Producer
Fee: £3000 (15 days @ £200 per day – subject to funding)
As the main project producer you will work closely with me on all aspects of the project production. I am looking for someone with a proven ability to deal professionally with a range of partners including funders, individual artists and arts organisations in order to deliver high quality arts projects. The exact responsibilities will be discussed in detail with the successful candidate but I expect the producer role to involve taking the main responsibility for contracts, evaluation, events production & management, project planning, marketing, press and budget management.

Freelance Administrator
Fee: £1500 (15days @ £100 per day – subject to funding)
The administrator will report directly to the producer, providing support in all aspects of project production. The role will involve dealing with external project partners, including artists, venues and organisations. Previous experience of supporting similar arts projects would be useful but the most important thing is that you have strong communication and organisational skills as well as a positive attitude and a professional approach.

Both of these roles are offered on a freelance basis therefore payment will be on receipt of invoice and you will be responsible for the payment of your own tax and NI. Much of the work will be flexible in nature, although attendance at key events will be required.

The project will launch at the Free Word Centre, London in November with an exhibtion of photography and a spoken word performance. The final exhibitions, events and performances will take place during Durham Book festival in October 2015 with the project coming to a conclusion by the end of  November 2015.

If you would like to express an interest in either of the above roles then please email stevie@stevieronnie.com by 5pm, Monday 22nd September with the following information:

  • A brief expression of interest stating why you would like to work with me on this project and any previous relevant experience (300 – 500 words)
  • Your CV, including contact details
  • Up to 3 web links highlighting previous relevant work (optional)

Although I am based in Newcastle, the programme of activity will take place across England and, given the right candidate, either of these roles could also be performed remotely. I am therefore happy to accept applications from across the UK.

Following the closing date I will contact shortlisted candidates to arrange an informal interview. I will aim to respond to all applications by the end of September. Please feel free to contact me on stevie@stevieronnie.com with any queries.
