The Last Post

2014

A socially engaged commission from Northumberland Arts Development to work with communities in South East Northumberland as part of The Last Post pilot project. I worked with Cramlington Library and Ellington First School to explore connections between The Great War and the area. Using historical objects and images donated from members of the public I produced a multimedia installation that used World War 1 communication techniques to send messages back through time to William Liddle, a local soldier whose diary I discovered within the Northumberland Archives at Woodhorn Museum, Ashington.

The resulting work was exhibited at Cramlington Library as part of a celebration event where the Cramlington Community choir performed songs from the era.
